A practical seminar focused on the effective use of renewable energy in agriculture—particularly in powering pumping units and vertical irrigation wells was held at the “Blue Carbon” joint venture in Kuvasoy city. The event brought together Fergana Region Governor Khayrullo Bozorov, Regional Prosecutor Bakhtiyor Ismoilov, deputy governors for agriculture and water management, sector specialists, commercial bank representatives, and farmers.

The participants first visited a local horticulture farm where they observed a solar panel system in operation. The 50 kWh solar station, currently priced at 165 million UZS, is expected to pay for itself in just 1.5 years and comes with a 25-year warranty. This system significantly reduces farmers’ energy costs and increases their profitability.

In his remarks, Governor Bozorov emphasized that water is an invaluable resource and the foundation of life. He noted that the decline in water resources in recent years has made their rational use a critical issue. He stressed that the government is prioritizing reforms and new technologies aimed at conserving and efficiently managing water resources.

He also noted that the region is gradually implementing water-saving irrigation systems, modernizing irrigation canals, and replacing pumping stations with energy-efficient technologies. The integration of solar panels into irrigation infrastructure is emerging as a model initiative in the region, which should be expanded to all districts. Specific measures to promote this effort were outlined during the seminar.

Deputy Governor Alibek Tursunov provided an overview of the region’s ongoing and planned initiatives for the use of water- and energy-saving technologies.

Established last year, the “Blue Carbon” joint venture produces high-quality monocrystalline solar panels and energy-efficient street lighting devices. During the seminar, the company presented its operations, including proposals to reduce electricity consumption in pump stations and wells by transitioning to solar energy.

Attendees were also briefed on credit options available to support this transition.

At the conclusion of the event, Governor Bozorov issued directives to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy sources in local irrigation systems and ensure financing is allocated for this purpose.

For reference: Over 130,000 hectares of farmland in Fergana Region are irrigated using 168 pumping stations and 2,303 vertical wells. Of these, 1,053 wells have been transferred to user ownership, with electricity costs now covered directly by the users.
