Fergana Prioritizes Smart Agricultural Innovations for Sustainable Growth

In line with national efforts to modernize agriculture, cutting-edge technologies are being actively introduced across the sector. Notably, Yazyavan district is embracing these advancements in the cultivation of cotton, wheat, rice, and other key crops. Currently, a pilot initiative is underway in collaboration with the Rice Research Institute to test high-yielding rice varieties adapted to local climatic conditions. On a 17-hectare plot operated by “Bahrombek” farming enterprise, experimental cultivation methods are being applied, with demonstration seedbeds established and resource-efficient agro-technologies implemented. Fergana Region Governor Khayrullo Bozorov visited the site to observe the ongoing work and was briefed on the technological interventions in place. During the visit, emphasis was placed on key goals for the rice sector, including water-saving strategies, cost-effective production, the development of drought-tolerant and climate-resilient rice varieties, and reducing the cost price of final products. According to agricultural specialists, transplanting techniques can help save up to 50% of irrigation water—a critical factor in the context of regional water scarcity. This method not only conserves resources but also enhances productivity and economic returns. At the same farming enterprise, which specializes in seed production, 50 hectares of wheat of the “Davr” variety are being cultivated in line with agronomic standards. The Governor also reviewed the condition of these wheat fields and discussed further measures to improve crop care and increase yields. These initiatives are part of a broader effort in Fergana to integrate science-driven agriculture, promote resilient farming systems, and strengthen the region’s food security and export capacity.
